Neighbors with Valmiera Theater
Our location in the heart of the city and next to the Valmiera Theater gives you the opportunity to enjoy both cultural events and delicious meal together with loved ones.
If you are planning to visit before the theater, we encourage you to reserve a table in advance and plan to arrive at least 2 hours before the performance so that we can ensure your visit and you can enjoy without a rush.
We have been in sync with the theater since its opening. If you hear us mention “Krodera table”, then know that this is a tribute to the outstanding Latvian director Oļģerts Kroderis from the Valmiera Theater. And to our friend, who found a sense of home with us through the dishes we prepared especially for him – Rātes Vārti had a special place in Kroderis’s life.

If you are planning a larger celebration or are looking for a private space for an event, we will be happy to welcome you, offering the most suitable solution, customizing the menu, and warm service to ensure that the event goes as planned.
We also offer a cozy, comfortable space for corporate seminars and work meetings — we will provide the necessary equipment, coffee breaks, and customized meals to make work parties both productive and enjoyable.

From family tradition to restaurant
Hospitality has been our heart and soul for 30 years. We are proud to come from a strong and hardworking family, where a love of food, shared cooking, and meals at the big family table have always been held in high regard.
The love for food, rooted in family values, has now carried over to our family restaurant, where the emphasis is on seasonal products from local producers, so that every dish is fresh, high-quality and delicious.
For more than 20 years we have been in the heart of Valmiera, in a building erected in 1938 by Oskars Bērziņš as a shop for his confectionery factory. Today Rātes vārti calls this place home — a spot where families and city guests come together to enjoy a delicious meal and spend time together
Our team will do everything for you to enjoy good food and time together either for dinner, your special occasion or a moment before the theater.
